BAT Facilitates Athlete Sponsorships

Featured in the NY Times this weekend, Brand Affiliate Technologies is out to help athletes and advertisers connect in finding sponsorship deals. BAT is looking to streamline the process of athlete sponsorships by offering professional athletes a way to secure endorsement deals, from contract to ad, all in a matter of days. 

BAT enables local and national advertisers to find, license and activate athlete sponsorships quickly and efficiently. The BAT platform houses detailed athlete profiles including photos and videos, where advertisers can search and find potential athlete sponsorships that match their brand vision. Advertisers can even geographically pinpoint the perfect talent for their regional campaigns. 

The rising costs of creating athlete sponsorships to build brands have made advertisers wary of lesser known or local talent. The BAT platform reduces risk and provides flexibility for brands as they are no longer tied into long term deals. The appeal of the plan is the lack of commitment on both sides of the deal. Athletes spend about 30 minutes taking pictures and recording voice-overs and brands get regionally focused deals at much smaller cost. 

Any athlete can sign up in hopes of finding sponsorship. Once approved, the athlete spends 15-20 minutes at a BAT shoot where the Company captures photos and videos to be included in the BAT platform. Once the athlete profiles are complete, advertisers can easily select and present the athlete with endorsement offers. Upon acceptance of the offer by the athlete, the advertiser will then use the photos and videos in approved campaigns without additional appearances or negotiations required. With this process, the benefits of athlete sponsorships far outweigh the costs for both the athlete and advertiser. 

BAT could be a great facilitator for outdoor athletes in finding sponsorship, even with brands they may not normally think of approaching. Most of the athletes signed up to the platform at the moment are from national sports leagues, but with enough outdoor athletes applying, I am sure we could see some cool BAT photo shoots happening in outdoor environments.
