The new Gorillatorch Switchback from Joby, makers of the Gorillapod, transforms from a powerful compact LED lantern into a high performance LED headlamp with the flip of a switch. The Switchback's smart and rugged design makes it the perfect universal lighting option for your camping, climbing or backpacking adventures.
The Switchback is powered by a 5 LED light array, including a 130 lumen CREE Xlamp XP-G LED spotlight, two white LED flood lights and two red LED fill lights for preserving your night vision. The Gorillatorch Switchback has 4 brightness settings from 5 to 130 lumens with a beam distance of 23 meters.
The lantern's holographic lens is 92% efficient, meaning almost all the light from the LEDs is released and shines evenly. Once on your head, the headlamp's main beam can be adjusted up to a 90 degree range and you can easily switch between the single bright beam, white flood lights (great for climbing at night) or the red fill lights.
The Switchback weighs just 8.8 oz, including both the lantern and headlamp, so won't weigh you down on the trail. The unit is powered by two AA batteries which will last for up to 72 hours of continuous use. The Switchback lantern stand doubles as a Gorillapod via an adaptor clip so can be used as your camera tripod for the trip.
The Gorillatorch Switchback retails for $59.95 and can be purchased from the Joby website or Amazon.
