Crate&Barrel's sister store CB2 will now start offering you a bike to go with your new couch. CB2 has collaborated with Republic Bike, the same company that produces the custom fixies for Urban Outfitters, on a pair of men's and women's Dutch bikes.
The abuelo and abuela 3-speed bikes were inspired by the original Dutch-style granny bikes, or omafiets as they are called in The Netherlands. The bikes are constructed out of a sturdy hi-ten steel frame and mud guard fenders, with a step-through style for women and step-over for men.
The oversized, yellow balloon tires provide better balance at lower speeds, while the Shimano gears and brakes give these Dutch bikes some real street cred. A bright red, classic button saddle seat matches the red oversized bell and red grips on the upright commuter handlebars. A kickstand and amber tire reflector lights round out the retro cool.
The women's bike includes a full vinyl chain case and skirt guard on the rear fender, as well as an additional carrier in the front. The men get red bungees on the rear carrier and steel chain guard.
The Crate&Barrel Dutch bikes retail for $499 on the CB2 website and will arrive 95% assembled.
