The Perfect Multi-Pitch Climbing Pack

Blue Ice Double Mono climbing pack

Chamonix, France based Blue Ice has been pumping out some pretty innovative climbing gear since their inception a couple of years ago. My search for the perfect multi-pitch climbing pack may finally be over with the company's new Double Mono pack.

With a deep passion for climbing, Blue Ice creates lightweight, durable, well-designed gear perfect for climbing, mountaineering and ski touring. This Spring, Blue Ice follows up the success of their one shoulder Mono climbing pack with the innovative Double Mono.

The Double Mono climbing pack is basically a double shoulder gear sling with a detachable Cordura backpack. The backpack features a 12 L compartment where you can store your water, snacks, shoes, and an extra layer to carry with you on your multi-pitch climb.

The climbing pack is hydration compatible with two side mesh pockets useful for storing lip balm or snacks. A hidden helmet holder rolls out and snaps to the front of your pack, enabling easy storage of your helmet for the approach or hike down from the top.

You can detach the backpack and just use the gear sling for single pitch or shorter climbs. The gear sling includes 8 gear loops to help keep your rack organized.

The Blue Ice Double Mono retails for €58 and can be purchased online or from various dealers across Europe. Neon green appears to be the "it" color for Spring/Summer 2011!

  1. Just heard from Blue Ice. Their response to the comments is as follows:

“We happen to have product expertise from ex product developer at Grivel, http://www.blueice.com/en/people/manu-ibarra
With the double mono we gave manu the chance to realize and finetune his old project.”

So looks like they, together with Manu, are trying to improve upon the original Grivel product that Manu helped create.
