The Big Geigerrig Hydration Pack Giveaway

Geigerrig RIG 500 hydration pack

In appreciation of my participation in the Geigerrig sponsored Hydration Summit last month, the company has offered up a RIG 500 hydration pack as a giveaway to one of our lucky readers here on The GearCaster. For entry into the giveaway, we have created a simple submission form over on our Facebook page

Geigerrig packs, including the RIG 500, use a unique two-chamber hydration reservoir system, nicknamed the Geigerrig Hydration Engine, which is designed to pressurize the water within the reservoir. The company has taken a standard Hydrapak bladder and modified it with a sealed air chamber on one side.

A separate pressurization tube connects to this air chamber, with a pressure bulb and valve at the other end. Pumping air into this chamber pressurizes the water in the adjacent chamber, causing it to automatically spray out of the nozzle of the drinking tube. Both these tubes are easy to connect and disconnect from the reservoir via the quick release valves for better refilling and cleaning.

With this pressurized system, all you have to do is pinch or lightly bite down on the bite valve to release a steady spray of water. The theory is, with a pressurized system you won’t have to stop your activity in order to drink, as sucking out of a unpressurized hydration reservoir requires you to interrupt your breathing, hard to do under sustained maximum effort.

You can read my full review of the Geigerrig hydration system over on the Hydration Summit website. For the next two weeks, we will be accepting entries into our Geigerrig Giveaway from our Facebook page. All North American residents may enter up to once a day, where the winner will be drawn on August 6th, 2012.

Good luck and as Geiggerig would say, "May you never suck again."
