As you gear up for all your summer outdoor adventures, plenty of new trail snacks are on offer to add some variety to your refueling strategies. From new flavors of old staples such as Clif Bar and KIND, to the completely new YaffBar energy bar you can even share with your dog, you won't go hungry when you head on outside to play.
YaffBars are the first energy bar designed specifically to be shared with your dog on the trail. Created by Vermont based Mudd+Wyeth, the 240 calorie energy bars are wholesome and hand baked, using all natural ingredients that are good for the both of you. No refined sugar is added and these energy bars are wheat, dairy, and caffeine free.
Three flavors are on offer: Banana Peanut Butter, Honey Almond Cranberry, and Blueberry Carob. Lola is particularly partial to the Banana Peanut Butter. A pack of 6 YaffBars retails for $18, with a portion of each sale donated towards a pet-related charity.
Just in time for summer, Clif has introduced the new Sierra Trail Mix Clif Bar flavor ($1.39). Made with Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa mixed in together with the classic trail mix ingredients of organic peanuts and raisins, these tasty energy bars are packed with protein and fiber to keep you going for miles on the trail.
You will most likely find one flavor of KIND bar or another on me at all times, whether it be traveling, touring around the city, or out on the trail. I took an entire pack of KIND bars with me to Jordan where they proved vital, serving as a snack on the plane, something to eat when suffering from Abdullah's Revenge, fuel out on the desert trail and half way up a rock climb in Wadi Rum, or to quiet the grumbling stomachs of fellow trip mates hungry for lunch.
My current favorite are the new KIND Nuts & Spices mix ($1.49) that include six different truly addictive flavors: Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt (be careful as this one will melt in the heat), Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan (again melts), Dark Chocolate Chili Almond (so good but melts), Madagascar Vanilla Almond, Cashew & Ginger Spice, and Maple Glazed Pecan & Sea Salt (my favorite of the six).
