Goal Zero Switch 8 Recharger Review

Goal Zero Switch 8

Knowing we would experience multiple “no service” days on our trip to Jordan earlier this summer, Goal Zero sent along a package of battery packs and solar panels. Throughout our visit and pretty much every trip I have taken since, I brought along the Switch 8 Recharger to keep my iPhone or iPad going while out on the road or deep in the backcountry.

Sized not much bigger than your average multi-tool, the Switch 8 is an ultralight USB-based power supply that can recharge your smaller electronics from anywhere. Fully loaded, the Switch 8 recharges your iPhone or other smartphone 1-2 times and brings your iPad or Kindle back to around 25%-50%.

Before I head out on any trip, I charge up my Switch 8 either directly from a USB power source or my laptop. If I am headed out on a longer backpacking trip, I bring along my Nomad 7 Solar Panel, which fully reloads the Switch 8 in about 5 hours of direct sunlight, then recharge my various devices as needed. A string of blue LED lights indicate how much battery you have remaining.

In this digital age, the Goal Zero Switch 8 has quickly become a device I never leave home without. Lightweight and small, for me its a no brainer. Just remember to bring your charging cord….

The Goal Zero Switch 8 Recharger retails for $39.99 and is available now.
