Buying an action camera has become akin to buying a cell phone. A month after you purchase the latest and greatest, a new improved version hits the market. Last week, GoPro announced the availability of its upgraded HERO3+ line of cameras that are not only smaller and lighter than previous models but will take better pictures and video than ever before.
The new HERO3+ Black Edition ($399.99) shaves 20% off the weight through the use of a new housing. GoPro extended the battery life by 30% and increased the speed of the WiFi connection for faster image transfer and playback.
The Black Edition takes 12MP photos and shoots in multiple video modes, including high-resolution, high-frame rate 1440p48, 1080p60, 960p100, and 720p120, along with the ultra high-resolution 4Kp15 and 2.7Kp30 modes for cinema quality capture.
The SuperView video feature enables you to take extreme wide angle shots, while the Auto Low Light mode automatically adjust the frame rate depending on the light conditions. A sharper lens and better audio ensure your adventures will look even better on the small screen.
The HERO3+ Silver Edition ($299.99) uses a new housing that is 15% smaller and lighter than the old HERO3. A faster image processor and upgraded WiFi connection mean faster picture taking and transfer of your images. The camera offers high-resolution, high-frame rate 1080p60, 960p60, and 720p120 video modes and takes 10MP stil images.
New mounts for both cameras include the Jaws: Flex Clamp and the Headstrap + QuickClip that allows mounting on baseball hats, belts, and other unstable objects. GoPro also updated the Studio 2.0 editing software, making it easier for you to edit and share videos with pre-made, customizable templates.
The new GoPro HERO3+ action camera models are available now.
