Petzl Bouldering Crashpads

Petzl Alto Crashpad

As the sport of bouldering continues to grow, Petzl decided to create a line of crashpads to round out their climbing hardgoods collection for Fall 2014. When designing the new crashpads, focus was given to the quality of impact absorption and to the general ergonomics of carrying and using the pads everyday.

The Petzl crashpads come in three different styles- the ALTO, CIRRO, and NIMBO. Sized at 118 x 100 x 10 cm, the ALTO features three layers of different density closed cell foam for super cushioning. Instead of folding up using breaks in the foam, the crashpad bends in a hingeless design to help lengthen the life of the foam and provide even cushioning over the entire surface.

A zippered flap closure keeps the waterproof and durable ALTO and CIRRO shut. This system enables you to securely store a bunch of gear inside the crashpad for carrying on the approach. Once at your spot, the flap unfolds to protect the carrying straps from getting all dirty.

The shoulder and waist straps are fully adjustable, with no metal pieces to cause potential injury if you should fall on them. For better lounging at the crag or back at your Sprinter Van drinking beers, the straps thread through to turn the crashpad into a comfortable camp bench.

The CIRRO crashpad comes in a bit smaller than the ALTO at 48 x 118 x 12.5 cm. The NIMBO (75 x 50 x 3 cm) is designed as a backup pad for sit starts or protecting the space between crashpads.
