Move over GoPro, a new type of action camera is coming to market. With 360° HD recording capability, CENTR just might take the otudoor selfie to a whole new level. And with a technology startup founded by ex-Apple camera engineers, you know the product is going to be well designed.
Fitting in the palm of your hand, CENTR takes 4K resolution (Ultra HD) panoramic videos, enabling you to capture your complete adventure experience. Using four independent HD image sensors, CENTR stitches theses videos together to create one panoramic shot.
The donut shaped design ensures you don't block any cameras when filming. There is even a digital bubble level to keep you from taking wonky horizon shots. In case you don't feel like constantly shooting 360° video, you can pick which cameras you want active at any given time. The CENTR camera also takes 20MP time-lapse panoramic stills.
Bluetooth compatibility enables mobile device control in order to change settings as well as real time video preview, while built-in WiFi means CENTR footage can be viewed on your computer, smartphone, or tablet in real-time through the CENTR interactive player.
In order to deliver high quality panoramic video, CENTR uses extensive and precise in-camera calibration, processing 20 different variables with each iteration. Custom designed optics give CENTR the highest possible resolution with minimal distortion.
The CENTR panoramic action camera comes in a splash proof housing that is tripod and GoPro mount compatible. For a $299 pledge over on Kickstarter, you can be one of the first to take a 360° selfie video when the camera is ready in February 2015.
