Urban Adventure Essentials

You don’t have to travel far and wide in order to find adventure. Urban adventures can be had close to home and scheduled almost everyday. Here is some of the essential gear you need to navigate your way around a city, while looking good and having fun in the process.

super.natural Drift Jacket ($350): Whether it is 10 degrees or 50 degrees outside, this jacket adapts to keep you comfortable–the Drift is equally at home on the streets of Paris in winter as it is roaming the neighborhoods and trails of San Francisco. The combination super light woven nylon and wool/polyester fleece outer is stuffed with Wool Cloud insulation (50% wool/50% polyester) to serve up just the right amount of warmth as needed.

Eider Queen Street Beanie ($45): Slouchy hats ooze urban cool. I received many compliments on this hat in both San Francisco and Paris. Yes, Paris. The fashionable, slightly draped cut creates a hip silhouette and the headband fleece lining is extremely comfortable.

Timbuk2 Maya Shoulder Bag ($100): For a full day touring the city, you want a bag big enough to carry the essentials but not so big you have to check it at museums. The Maya Shoulder Bag fits the bill. You can comfortably sling it cross-body while still gaining access to the main compartment, while the front zipper pocket provides the perfect place to quick-access store your iPhone. Part of the Timbuk2 custom program, you can go as wild or understated with the design as you want.

Sherpa Rimjhim Hand Warmers ($30): Everywhere on the streets of Paris, fingerless mittens are currently all the rage. And for good reason. They leave your fingers free to snap selfies on your smartphone while keeping your wrists and hands warm. If it gets really cold, simply tuck your fingers inside. Though these may not match the fur embelished versions found on Rue de Rivoli, the hand knit ones from Sherpa Adventure Gear are my favorite–made of wool and lined with fleece.

Salewa Gore-Tex Surround:You are going to be walking around all day and while your feet need protection from the elements, you don’t want them to get hot and sweaty. The new Gore-Tex Surround footwear offers 360-degree breathability while remaining weatherproof. Pictured are the Salewa Ramble GTX but my favorite are the Salewa Rosengarten Boots ($189).

Prana Kara Jeans ($85): Jeans are a staple of any urban adventure wardrobe and the Kara jeans from Prana are incredibly versatile. Dress them up, rolled up with some high heel ankle boots or wear them around the city tucked into a pair of calf-boots. Available in a variety of colors, these organic cotton stretch denim pants will keep their shape day after day.

Revo Raconteur ($229): Classic aviator style in a lightweight, texturized metal frame.
