Fully recognizing that not everyone who plays outdoors is a hardcore outdoor enthusiast, REI launched a new line of urban-inspired outdoor lifestyle gear this month designed for the younger or more casual outdoor consumer. Reminiscent of what Alite Designs has done here in San Francisco with making the outdoors accessible to everyone, the new REI Evrgrn collection is all about gear that is fun and easy to use, while combining both style and function at the same time.
The Evrgrn collection includes 11 products that can be used anywhere from a rooftop party and an upscale picnic to a backyard BBQ or a campsite. Products include such items as a chair, cooler, tote, a sleeping bag you can wear around camp, hammock, and even a stargazing tent, with most of the pieces designed to work together.
One of my favorite pieces is the Campfire Rocker ($99)–a lightweight, portable rocker that folds up and stores easily in its included carry case. The rocker base is stable and designed to keep you from tipping too far forward or back, with a full-height seat back for support and a small stash pocket for your phone or a deck of cards.
The 24 Pack Backpack Cooler ($75) holds and entire case of your favorite beverage. The removable insulated liner bag is waterproof and easy to clean in case anything spills and behind the liner sits a zippered stash pocket to safely store your wallet and keys. An external pocket on the Backpack Cooler fits the Evrgrn Picnic Table ($70), while base straps hold the Center Stage Rug ($65) or Cluster Tablecloth ($20).
REI members get first dibs on Evrgrn product from the website. The Campfire Rocker is available to order now, with the other products coming online near the end of the month.
