Figuring out how much burn time is left on your headlamp has always been a bit of a guessing game–until now. Petzl created a mobile app that when paired with the new REACTIK+ or NAO+ headlamps, not only gives you access to a precise battery status but also control of the light settings.
Through the MyPetzl Light mobile app, you can get real-time status updates on the battery charge level and the remaining burn time in hours and minutes. You can manually adjust the brightness or mode of the headlamp and even set a desired burn time where the light adjust its own settings accordingly.
The app comes with a variety of predefined activity levels such as trail running, mountaineering, or hiking. Once you choose a profile, the headlamp will adapt its performance to those settings–if you don’t like the predefined profiles, you can choose to create your own based on your planned or everyday activities.
In case of emergency, the app lets you compose a brief message, such as SOS, to then be transformed by the headlamp into a morse code light signal.
The 300-lumen REACTIK+ headlamp uses a multi-beam light source and features Petzl’s Reactive Lighting technology–a light sensor analyzes the ambient light and adjust the headlamp brightness instantly. The NAO+ offers 750-lumens of multi-beam Reactive Lighting and adds a rear battery back with red light for front and back visibility.
The REACTIK+ and NAO+ headlamps as well as the MyPetzl Light app will be available in July.
