Skhoop Supreme Thermium Skirt Review

Skhoop Supreme Thermium Short Skirt

Coming to Iceland, I knew I would encounter a variety of conditions including gusty wind, rain, snow, and some pretty damp cold temps. To add that extra bit of warmth, I like to wear an insulated skirt–whether it’s walking around town, climbing, or even skiing.

Cruising around Reykjavik, I found that pretty much all Icelandic women wear extra long coats that cover most of their legs. Pretty smart, but as I didn’t want to bring a bunch of different jackets with me to Iceland, I brought my Skhoop skirt to throw on over whatever I was wearing instead.

The latest Skhoop skirt is made from Gore Thermium–Thermium delivers complete windproof protection and stands up to light rain and brief snowfalls. Not only does it protect your legs from exposure to the elements thanks to the durable, rain-resistant membrane, seam sealed construction, and DWR treatment, but it protects the insulation housed inside as well. Thermium fabrics ensure that down and other synthetic insulating materials maintain their loft even in cold and damp conditions.

I was exited to test out the new Skhoop Supreme Thermium Short Skirt ($259) in Iceland. The skirt offers 80 grams of insulation and is slightly longer in the back (17” front / 19” back) for added protection on the backside. It features two water-repellent side zippers for easy on/off, two large zippered bellows pockets in the front, and rear elastic waistline for a perfect fit. When belaying, simply turn the skirt sideways to accommodate your harness–the zippers are two way so easy to get access to your belay loop from the top. The totally windproof, yet extremely breathable Gore Thermium membrane blocks the wind but allows any vapor to escape.

For next fall, Skhoop also plans to release the Windstopper Rider Skirt ($198).  This new versatile skirt can be used as a regular skirt or as a skort for riding and cycling–simply use the middle zipper to create two legs and the elastic bands in the legs to keep the skirt in place. Two additional side zippers make it easy to put on/take off, and reflectors along the hem of the skirt provide an added safety feature. With the wind-proof and water-resistant shell and 80 g insulation, the added layer of breathable protection the Windstopper Rider Skirt provides will keep you warm and dry for enhanced performance during highly aerobic activities. Length: 18” front / 26”back.

Both the Skhoop skirts will start shipping next fall.
