Yesterday, REI announced their Outessa Summit–an event series for women featuring outdoor education, recreation, and adventure. Whether a seasoned outdoor enthusiast or complete newbie, the aim of the event is to bring all kinds of women together for a weekend to challenge themselves, create new friendships, and strengthen their love for the outdoors
The REI Outessa Summit is an immersive event offering outdoor adventures led by female guides and athletes, access to gear and products, great food and wine, and a variety of lodging choices all set in gorgeous surroundings. The 3-day weekends are designed to be flexible. Each attendee can customize her schedule, choosing from more than 200 classes and experiences including camping, backpacking, kayaking, outdoor cooking, mountain biking, paddle boarding, rock climbing, yoga, hiking, trail running, and more.
The variety of classes are meant to cover all skill levels. For example you can take an intro to mountain biking course or up your skills by learning the complete art of bike maintenance. An example schedule for one morning of the three days can be seen below.
You can choose to camp or stay at one of the neighboring resort and lodging options. All meals are included, with food that highlights the culinary artists of the area, made with special attention to allergies and local ingredients.
The initial Outessa Summit weekends will be held in two places–Kirkwood, CA (Lake Tahoe) from August 19-21 and Powder Mountain, UT from September 9-11. The price for the weekend is $749 for the first 250 women who sign up. As part of the package, you get a welcome gift of gear from prAna, Osprey, Stance, and Taylor Maid Farms. Online registration is now open with a limited number of spots available (500 per location).
