RockyMounts MonoRail Swing

RockyMounts MonoRail

While hitch racks are by far the easiest way to transport your bike, they are a bit of a nuisances with hatchback cars. Bike rack brands have tried to make it easier to get in the back of your car by adding a tilt feature, but RockyMounts just took it one step further. The new MonoRail Swing hitch rack swings all the way to the side of your car (even fully loaded with bike), leaving the back of your car free and clear.

At Interbike next week, RockyMounts will officially unveil a bunch of new products including the MonoRail Swing and standard hitch rack, the MonoRail. The MonoRail Swing is a platform hitch rack with an easy-to-reach toggle latch that releases the rack and allows it to swing 180 degrees to the right, giving you full access to rear of your car.

The MonoRail Swing fits 2″ receivers and holds bikes with wheel sizes between 20-29″, with zero frame contact. It also provides clearance for all fat bikes, including those with Bluto forks and 197 mm rear spacing.

The swinging hitch rack features an anti-wobble chromoly hitch tube that’s lightweight and corrosion resistant, a locking hitch pin, and a cable lock. It carries two bikes standard, plus a third via an add-on that’s sold separately for $149.95.

The RockyMounts MonoRail Swing will retail for $529.95, including a lifetime warranty, and will start shipping next spring. The non-swing standard MonoRail will retail for $369.95 and comes in both 1.25″ and 2″ receiver versions.

I look forward to meeting with RockMounts next week in Vegas to find out more details, such as how much the MonoRail Swing weighs. I can imagine the swing mechanism is pretty heavy…
