For Spring 2018, down apparel king Rab gets set to release a new line of sleeping bags that will have ultralighters and bikepackers swooning. Weighing in a just over a pound, the Mythic series of down sleeping bags offers the best warmth to weight ratio in the entire Rab range.
The Mythic is a tapered mummy style bag made from a lightweight Pertex Quantum 7-denier inner and outer shell, with 900-fill certified responsible and PFC-free water-resistant down stuffed in the trapezoidal baffle chambers.
The tapered mummy style not only helps shave weight but gives you an angled foot box to help keep your toes warm. All trims like zipper pulls and drawcords are super lightweight without skimping on performance — you still get a full zipper and neck baffle to eliminate cold spots.
The Mythic is available in three different styles corresponding to their fill weights in grams and resulting temperature ranges — the 200, 400, and 600. The Mythic 200 is rated to a 43 degrees F comfort level and weighs just over a pound, the Mythic 400 is rated to a 30 degrees F comfort level and weighs roughly 1.5 pounds, and the Mythic 600 will take you down to a 23 degrees F comfort level at a weight of just under two pounds.
The water-resistant down sleeping bags come with a large cotton storage sack and a dry bag compression sack for efficient packing — no need to worry about that errant rain storm.
The Rab Mythic sleeping bags will retail for $385-$485 and start shipping next spring.
Not to be outdone, Mountain Hardwear takes their popular Ghost Whisperer jacket technology and uses it to create an ultralight down sleeping bag line. The Ghost Whisperer 40 degrees F and 20 degrees F are made from a 10 denier ripstop nylon inner and outer shell and stuffed with 900-fill certified responsible water-resistant down. The 40-degree bag ($400) weighs just over a pound, while the 20-degree bag ($580) comes in at around 1.8 pounds.
