If you are like me, sometimes you head off on your bike and forget to turn on your taillight. Or you put your lights on your bike only to realize the battery is dead. To save us from ourselves and keep us safe when navigating city streets, Light&Motion created a set of smart bike lights that cut down on user error.
Light&Motion’s button-free Vibe head and taillights feature smart sensors that recognize motion and automatically turn on and off, with a powerful, variable pulse that’s designed for maximum traffic visibility both day and night. The lights secure to a handlebar or seat post with a quick quarter-turn lock, and locking in the Vibe activates the sensors.
The 250-lumen Vibe Pro HL headlight ($50) senses ambient light and knows to pulse in the daytime and run steady at night. Light&Motion’s SafePulse beam pattern was designed to maximize biker safety based on the Wells Florida Highway Patrol Emergency Lighting Study. The study shows how to best alert the driver of a cyclist’s presence and accurately gauge a safe overtaking distance.
The 100-lumen Vibe Pro TL ($60) has a low-profile mount that takes up less seat post space than normal, leaving more room for saddle bags or short seat posts. An optional seat rail mount takes this one step further allowing the light to be mounted directly under the saddle with angle adjustment for increased visibility or if using a wide aero post. The Vibe taillight also comes with a standard mount and in a 50-lumen version for $40.
Like Light & Motion’s other bike lights, the Vibe series is completely waterproof. The certified IP67 rating allows the light to be submerged up to 1 meter without issue, meaning you don’t have to worry if you get caught in a downpour. Tested to withstand repeated 1 meter drops on concrete, Vibe is engineered with durability and long-term reliability in mind.
The Vibe Pro HL and Vibe Pro TL have a 6 hour run time, while the standard Vibe taillight has a 12 hour runtime. All recharge in about 2 hours via a built-in USB blade that plugs into any USB port. Each of the lights weighs 30 grams so won’t add too much to your setup.
