Black Diamond Focuses on Backcountry Safety for Fall 2019

JetForce Pro

For Fall 2019, Black Diamond gets set to introduce a variety of both hard goods and soft goods to help keep skiers and snowboarders safe and happy in the backcountry. The snow safety category is highlighted by the next evolution of its JetForce avalanche airbag technology with two new packs added to the line.

The new JetForce Pro ($1400) avalanche airbag pack is now smaller and lighter than previous JetForce packs and features Bluetooth capabilities to connect to your phone for easy firmware updates. The 10-liter pack is ideal for quick backcountry tours or sidecountry resort skiing.

The JetForce Pro system is modular so you can swap out the fan-powered airbag with a 25-liter and 35-liter ski pack, or a 25-liter splitboard pack for snowboarders. The airbag fan has been repositioned to give you more usable space inside the pack, and the retractable leg-loop is now faster to clip on and off. In addition to the JetForce Pro, Black Diamond will offer two other avalanche airbag packs for Fall 2019, including the new ultralight JetForce UL and the current JetForce Tour 26L.

For backcountry apparel, Black Diamond created the Solution Baselayer for men and women featuring NuYarn stretch Merino wool technology. The baselayers are stronger, warmer, and dry faster than other Merino wool fabrics. Flatlock stitching provides seams that don’t chafe, while the crew version’s shoulder panel is designed to eliminate pressure points while carrying a pack.

In addition to the new baselayers, the brand updated the heated Solano gloves with a rechargeable heating element that wraps around the inside of the wrist to better keep your hands warm. The system includes three-levels of heat that are controllable via an integrated LED switch.

The new Vision Down Parka is the company’s warmest insulated jacket to date, loaded with high-lofting 800-fill power. The Allied RDS-certified HyperDRY treated consumer-traceable goose down insulation resists moisture and offers sleeping bag-level warmth in seriously cold conditions.

“Snow safety and avalanche response have always driven Black Diamond to develop new tools to help people travel safely in the backcountry,” states Kasey Jarvis, vice-president of product at Black Diamond Equipment. “Our Fall 2019 line is our most refined backcountry collection to date and specifically addresses snow safety and the interests of a growing movement of backcountry skiers and mountain adventurers.”
