New Ultralight Tent from Hyperlite Mountain Gear

Just in time for your spring thru-hiking, backpacking, and bikepacking adventure planning, the champion of ultralight — Hyperlite Mountain Gear — drops a new two-person tent. Called the Dirigo 2, this three-season shelter balances minimalism with just the features you need to keep you comfortable night after night on the trail.

The Dirigo 2 is a self-contained, three-season, two-person tent constructed using a blend of five different Dyneema Composite Fabrics. Fully seam-sealed to ensure waterproofness, the tent weighs just 1 pound, 12 ounces.

The tent pitches easily using eight stakes (four stakes for a minimalist build), two adjustable trekking poles, and a carbon Ridge Bar to add strength and stability in inclement weather.

The Dirigo 2 offers 32.5-square-feet of floor space, with two opposing doors for easy entry and exit, two vestibules for an additional 28.2-square-feet of gear storage, and two large mesh interior walls for maximum ventilation.

An interior peak height of 3 feet, 9 inches means two people can both sit up easily, while sidewall guy-out points help increase the internal living space. For internal gear organization, you’ll find a large hanging mesh pocket.

Hyperlite Mountain Gear Founder and CEO Mike St. Pierre: “When we began working on the Dirigo 2 in 2014, we found a compelling design challenge: how do we build a floored shelter that delivers the durability and light weight for which Hyperlite Mountain Gear is known, while also providing a confidence-inspiring tent that is stable in all conditions encountered on the trail. We endeavored to produce the best tent for the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail andI believe we hit the mark.“

Hyperlite Mountain Gear produces the Dirigo 2 by hand in its Biddeford, Maine facility. The tent retails for $795 and is available now. And in case you were wondering about the name of the tent, it means “I lead” in Latin and is the state motto of Maine.
