At Outdoor Retailer last week, I had the opportunity to check out some new climbing gear from Petzl. The brand gets set to release a handful of new hardware in which both ice climbers and rock climbers will be interested. The ice specific gear comes out in January, while the more rock specific items will hit shelves in April.
Tomorrow, I leave on an ice climbing trip to Iceland, so am frantically trying to finish packing. For a gear intensive sport and action packed trip, it’s hard to keep the balance between manageable weight and not forgetting anything. While not every single item is shown in the photo above and I won’t bore you with the details of each, the following are a few key pieces of gear I am psyched about.
For the 2016 winter season, it may come as no surprise that Arc’teryx expands its footwear collection to include a line of ski alpinism boots. Designed and built for technical mixed/ice ascents and big mountain descents, the new Procline Boot combines all the features of a climbing boot with a ski mountaineering boot.
The latest addition to the Phantom line of climbing boots, the Phantom Tech are the lightest boots Scarpa has yet to make. With a brand new gaiter design, the boots are created for full-condition ice, mixed, and alpine climbing.
