Ice Climb Layers

Essential Ice Climbing Layers

Ice Climb Layers

The key to staying warm when ice climbing is to dress in layers. You need to be able to start out the day wearing just your baselayer or midlayer for the approach, then continue to add and remove layers throughout the day as you climb and belay. This is my current ice climbing apparel setup for the season. While the individual pieces may change from year to year, the general layering concept remains the same.

Roundup Of The Season’s Best Outdoor Shorts

Outdoor-Research-Backcountry-Boardshorts

The warmer weather of summer always brings with it an uptick in activity, to which my Endomondo account can attest. Over the past few months, the trails around Pittsburgh have served as a head-to-head testing ground for outdoor shorts from Outdoor Research, Icebreaker, Sherpa Adventure Gear, Salomon, and Mountain Hardwear. The purpose of the test was to look for shorts that covered a wide variety of fabrics and designs, and that could be used for multiple activities both on and off the trail. You will find my thoughts on each below.

Ten Spring/Summer Travel Essentials

Essentials

As another spring and summer travel season arrives, my bags remain perpetually packed. You may notice plenty of of dark colors in the ten essentials above- when traveling for extended periods of time (especially to Europe), I tend to mix and match along one color scheme. This seems to make packing so much easier, where you can later add pops of color in your scarf, watch, or other accessories. I also ensure the majority of my gear can serve double duty for more active pursuits such as hiking or biking.
