Bern, the masters of multisport, have always been great at designing helmets that could take you from the board to your bike and then on to the slopes. This winter, Bern decided to specifically address the needs of the skier or snowboarder with the new Kingston and Rollins helmets. I took the Kingston with me to Sweden, for ten days filled with all types of skiing and fat biking.
Best known for their brimmed, all season, all action sports helmets, Bern now launches their first ever ski-specific helmets this winter—the Kingston and the Rollins. Using new technology, the ski helmets are lighter and stronger, all while maintaining Bern’s signature low profile and fit.
Knowing exactly when to get a new ski helmet can be difficult. A general rule of thumb in the industry is that assuming no major falls, helmets should be replaced every three years. Over time, temperature, dry mountain air, and hard use work together to deteriorate the EPS foam inside the helmet, making it unsafe.
As I had numerous ski adventures planned for this winter, including a big heli-ski trip up to Whistler last month, I figured it was time to buy a new helmet. I had heard good things about the award winning POC Fornix, so decided to purchase one in order to put the snow sports helmet through its paces over the season.
