Granite Gear Uberlight CTF3 Dry Sack

Granite Gear Uberlight Dry Sack

Minnesota company Granite Gear released a new dry sack for this season that is not just ultralight but uberlight. For those of you gearing up to thru-hike the PCT or AT take note, the
Uberlight CTF3 dry sack

boasts half the weight of sil nylon with five times the tensile strength. This means you can keep your gear dry, clean and organized on the trail while adding virtually no weight.

The Uberlight CTF3 is a semi-transparent dry sack with a tight roll top closure and stitch free seams. The box like shape won't leave gaps in your pack the way round sacks tend to do.

The dry sacks are made from CTF3 fabric, better known on the market as Cuben Fiber. Originally designed for the sails on the 1992 America's Cup winning boat, the material is now used in everything from parachutes to aerospace equipment.

The material is a flexible, non-woven composite laminate reinforced with Dyneema. Dyneema is a super strong fiber that offers maximum strength/weight properties, floats on water and is extremely durable and resistant to moisture, UV light and chemicals.

Weighing in at just 15 grams for the 7L and 21 grams for the 18L, you won't have to sacrifice much on weight to keep your gear clean and dry. The dry sacks come in 4 different sizes: 7L, 10L, 13L and 18L and in four different colors: green, blue, yellow and orange.

If you are into uberlight, there are some other cool outdoor uses of Cuben Fiber. Check out ZPacks backpacks and stuff sacks as well as the Brooks Range Rocket Tent. There are plenty of Cuben Fiber tarps out there from Backpacking Light, Oware and Mountain Laurel Designs. Maybe Cuben Fiber will join Aerogel as the next big outdoor material?

The

retail from $38.95 to $48.95.
