The crew at Alite Designs was nice enough to let me borrow an In-Law Outlaw Tent for my post Outdoor Retailer trip to Colorado. I was planning to camp for the #COTweetup, for which I did not make it to Boulder in time, so instead used the tent for a few days of camping in Aspen on my drive back home.
We camped at Difficult Campground, about 10 minutes outside of Aspen off of Highway 82. A gorgeous spot in the White River National Forest, each camp site was relatively private, had plenty of space for a tent or two, picnic table, and a fire pit for cooking and grilling.
The first thing we did upon arriving at the campground was to set up the tent. The setup from start to finish was done in a matter of minutes. The tent frame comes in four pole parts- two frame shaped pole structures for the ends of the tent and two straight poles to go up and along the sides of the tent.
Since instructions weren't included with our tent, we were a little worried about just how much the straight poles had to bend to fit into the two end frames. We thought for sure we were doing something wrong or were going to bust a pole. So don't worry when you go to set up the frame, the poles need to and REALLY do bend!
One look at the erected In-law Outlaw Tent and I was instantly transported back to my childhood filled with Winnebago camping trips. The RV style waterproof rain-fly even has its own California license plate. This three season tent is roomy enough for two people, all your gear and a couple of dogs.
Dual vestibules make it easy to get in and out, while a mesh roof on the inner tent lets you sleep bug-free under the stars on those warm summer nights. A built in clothes line comes in handy for hanging up your swimsuit or other wet clothes at the end of the day and numerous side and roof pockets make it easy to stow the rest of your gear.
Bottom Line: The In-Law Outlaw Tent is perfect for car camping trips and you can't go wrong with the retro cool factor. You will be the envy of all the Cruise America drivers at the campground. You will appreciate the small design details that make setting up this tent so easy, such as the rain-fly simply snap buckling into the base of the inner tent.
