Paying homage to the normal New York City attire of head to toe black, cycling apparel newcomer Search And State pedal onto the scene using a simple, clean aesthetic. With a price tag to rival that of Rapha and minimal branding, we can expect to see SAS adopted by the cool kids en masse as the year progresses.
Split between Minneapolis and New York City, the founders Devin O’Brien and Daniel Golden wanted to create a brand around their passion for cycling, while bringing a fresh perspective to the sport. All the SAS cycling apparel is manufactured in New York City where Daniel has worked as a designer with various fashion houses in the past.
Opening the online shop for the first time last month with two pieces, Search And State will continue to add to the collection. The S1-A cycling jersey ($125) is constructed from a breathable, two-toned, quick-drying microbial fabric made exclusively for the company. The jersey uses an Italian Riri zipper along the front, with a classic three-pocket configuration in the back and grippers along the waist.
The windproof and waterproof S1-J is a 3-season jacket ($245) made from Schoeller's C-Change fabric. The C-Change membrane reacts to changes in temperature, opening up to let out heat and moisture, while narrowing in the cold to help retaIn heat while remaining breathable. A large rear zippered pocket provides enough room to store the essentials on your ride.
All Search And State cycling apparel features a tailored, slim, race inspired fit. The pieces are meant to be worn close to your body. If you aren't built like an Italian bike racer, you might want to order up a size or two.
Sorry ladies, no women's cycling apparel yet. Hopefully they will go the way of Rapha or Outlier and eventually work us into the mix. We want to be one of the cool kids too.
