With tag lines such as “Bitumen is Boring”, Salomon is sponsoring a number of events and tours in several countries around the world to encourage the uptake of trail running and speed hiking. For Spring 2012, Salomon has designed a range of innovative, lightweight and responsive shoes for this type of experience, with the new XR Mission trail running shoe the centerpiece for all-terrain middle and long distance trails.
Though a relative newcomer to the outdoor footwear scene, Oboz is quickly racking up accolades for their high-quality hiking boots and environmentally friendly ways. Oboz recently took that footwear expertise a step further and expanded into trail running shoes. I was sent a pair of the new for Spring '11 women's Flash to test out.
Two footwear camps appear to be forming around trail running: those for the minimalist, barefoot style and those for the more super cushioned approach originally taken by Hoka Shoes. Debuting next Spring, Montrail and Tecnica are introducing a new line of trail running shoes with extra cushioning.
