Boulder, Colorado company NewtonRunning is set to launch their first line of trail shoes. In their third year of business, Newton now offers 16 different shoe models to accommodate runners of all abilities who want to improve their form, speed and efficiency. The trails shoes have been in development for over two years and will incorporate Newton's exclusive technology from their original road running line.
Newton's patented Action/Reaction Technology was inspired by Isaac Newton's third law of motion-for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Replacing the inherent energy loss of foam, air or gel in traditional running shoes, the Newton Action/Reaction Technology absorbs and then returns your own energy back to you, boosting you forward.
When your mid-foot lands on the ground, four external actuator lugs are pressed into hollow chambers inside the shoe's mid-sole via an elastic membrane, absorbing shock and loading with energy. As your forefoot levers inside the shoe, the lugs release their stored energy and lever you forward. There is a final burst of energetic return from the technology as you lift your knee and begin a new stride.
Danny Abshire and Ian Adamson, part of the product development team at Newton, drew upon their experiences as ultrarunner and world champion adventure racer to design the cutting edge trail shoes. The trail shoes, available in both men's and women's versions, include a highly breathable, fast-drying and debris-proof mesh upper. The Action/Reaction Technology has been tuned specifically for trail running and a new high traction, durable outsole was designed specifically for the trail shoes.
The Newton trail shoes should be ready by July 2010 and will retail for $139. Newton running shoes are available at specialty shoes worldwide or from the Company website.
