During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week, California sports technology company Liquid Image, will be launching their new Summit Series goggle- the world's first snow goggles with integrated digital camera. The new snow goggles follow the concept of the original Liquid Image underwater digital camera mask that has become popular among scuba divers. You will now be able to capture pictures and video of your skiing, snowboard, sledding or snowmobiling adventures without extra equipment.
The snow goggles contain an integrated wide angle lens with 5.0 MP (2560 X 1920) camera mode and a video mode that records D1 video (720 X 480) and audio at a rate of up to 30 frames per second. The camera is very easy to operate with gloved hands. There are two large buttons on the side of the snow goggles- one for On/Off/Mode and another to release the shutter.
To take a photo or record a video, simply turn on the camera, choose the proper mode, then press the shutter button. LED lights inside the goggles indicate the current mode of the camera. The nice thing about having the camera integrated into your snow goggles is that you should get a better point of view than you would from a helmet camera. The pictures and videos will be closer to the image that you, yourself are seeing.
The integrated camera can take up to 16 GB of memory using an SD/SDHC Card. You can download your photos and video to your computer via a high speed USB cable or through your SD Card. The Lithium Rechargeable Battery will last for up to 2:20 hrs of recordable video or 2200 photos.
The Summit Series Snow Camera Goggles are estimated to ship late Summer 2010 and will retail for $149. So these snow goggles are something to put on your Christmas list for next year's winter sports season.
