“Real” Fleece Midlayers For Fall

Smartwool Layering System

SmartWool and Icebreaker are both introducing a collection of merino wool midlayers that will enable you to dress head to toe in wool this Fall and Winter. By layering in all merino wool, you get the benefit of warmth without the bulk of synthetic fleece.

SmartWool's new Thermal Midlayer (TML) acts as an insulation layer, trapping air between it and your baselayer, creating a thermal insulation zone that keeps you warm. The merino wool TML is breathable, passing moisture vapor to the outside so you stay dry and comfortable.

The SmartWool Thermal Mid Layers are available in three weights for different activity level and weather conditions: TML Light SportKnit, TML Light and TML Heavy. The SportKnit has a looser weave, offers more breathability and is perfect for those high aerobic activities or warmer days. The TML Heavy is your go to choice for colder days with lots of stops and starts in activity.

Icebreaker Realfleece

Icebreaker's Realfleece will take you from mountain to apres ski. The interior of each Realfleece garment has a terry knit construction with loft that has been brushed to create air pockets to trap and lock in body heat. The outside of the garment has a smooth, breathable jersey finish.

Icebreaker says their Realfleece garments are perfect for low aerobic sports or to throw on for warm up or warm down during higher aerobic activity. The Realfleece comes in two styles for both men and women, with and without hoods.

The Icebreaker men's Aspiring Zip and Aspiring Hood feature a full zip front, zippered front hand pockets, chest pocket and a center front interior chin guard. The women's versions are the Igloo Zip and Igloo Hood with the same features.
