Sierra Designs Rejoice 30 Backpack Review

Sierra Designs Rejoice 30

With the new Traverse series of backpacks for 2011, Sierra Designs looked to reinvent performance by addressing the key elements of fit, carry and ventilation. I was sent the Rejoice 30, a women's daypack in the series, to put to the test on the trails of Northern California and Nevada.

The Rejoice 30 daypack features the new Sierra Designs Fulcrum Suspension System, a molded composite framesheet behind your shoulder blades and pelvis, connected through a single spine-like, aluminum stay down your back. A custom forged pivot at the hipbelt allows it to move with you for added comfort and stability.

A unique system of ventilation channels, together with the split lumbar design, keep air circulating over your back to help keep you cool. The Fulcrum Suspension System gives you more comfort and stability when carrying heavy loads, but might be a bit overkill on a 30 L daypack. The framesheet and stay are very rigid, making it hard to stuff gear into the limited amount of space.

The Rejoice 30 daypack is hydration ready with a reservoir sleeve at the back of the large main compartment and an exit hole out to either strap for your hydration tube. In addition, two stretchy side pockets are great for stowing water bottles or extra gear.

The large front pocket comes with internal mesh and zippered organization pockets, including a security clip for your keys. A further front panel is convenient for storing maps or other quick access items.

Two zippered pockets on the hipbelt are perfect for storing a camera, snacks, sunscreen or lip balm. Trekking pole loops come in handy for stowing your sticks when not in use and don't forget the integrated bottle opener for that cold one at the end of the hike.

Bottom Line: The Sierra Designs Rejoice 30 is the perfect size and has all the functionality you need for a great day hiking the trails or possibly a super minimal overnighter. The unique Fulcrum Suspension system makes the daypack super comfortable to wear but may be unnecessary for this 30 L size.

The Sierra Designs women's Rejoice 30 and men's Herald 30 retail for $159.95 and are available now.
