Nemo Canon -40 Sleeping Bag

Nemo Canon -40 sleeping bag

Originally part of their initial sleeping bag launch, Nemo decided to do a bit of a redesign before finally releasing the Canon -40 sleeping bag. Stuffed with 850-fill goose down throughout for extra warmth, Nemo added some unique design features to the sleeping bag to make life at sub-zero temperatures a lot more liveable.

To provide some venting options, Nemo added two "gills" or zippered openings to the front of the bag. The vents might also come in handy to shove your legs through when hanging out in camp or moving around the tent. Nemo also added two zippered arm holes to allow you to stay warm in your bag when melting snow or cooking dinner in your tent vestibule.

The unique hood design completely envelops your head, leaving just the PrimaLoft insulated Stove Pipe open for air. For inspiration, Nemo turned to the Inuit communities of the high north who have long worn Arctic parkas with fur ruffs–tunnel hoods that seal the neck and face, protecting from extreme cold. The Canon’s Stove Pipe feature mimics this centuries-old design by creating a warm pocket of air in front of your face, essentially pre-warming bitter air before inhalation.

The Canon -40 shell is made from a 15 denier nylon that is treated with an ultralight waterproof/breathable coating on the back side of the fabric and DWR on the face to keep moisture from condensing on the surface and to help shed frost.

The footbox uses a mix of down and PrimaLoft insulation in order to keep your feet warm even if the bag gets wet. Insotect Flow vertical baffling prevents cold spots from down shifting in the bag. The two way center zip enables easy in and out and a small pocket in the hood is perfect for storing your alarm or chapstick within close reach.

The Nemo Canon -40 sleeping bag weighs 4 lbs. 7 oz. and retails for $999. Expect to see this cold weather bag finally hit the market Fall 2013.
