The $99 Rain Jacket

Columbia EvaPOURation Jacket

Waterproof breathable jackets don’t always come cheap, with high end models selling for upwards of $700. By using their own proprietary technologies, a few outdoor companies have been able to produce some great rain jackets at much more affordable prices. Columbia Sportswear and Adidas now join long standing Marmot in featuring $99 rain jackets in their Spring 2014 collections.

The EvaPOURation Jacket ($99) from Columbia Sportswear is lined with Omni-Wick EVAP, helping to quickly disperse any moisture buildup across a large surface area in order to escape out through the Omni-Tech waterproof breathable membrane. This fully seam sealed jacket weighs in at 11.3 oz and tucks up into its own pocket. The storm hood and hem are adjustable to further block out the elements and the pit zips come in handy if you start to up the intensity.

Marmot’s PreCip Jacket has been priced at $99 for quite some time. However, for Spring 2014, this extremely popular rain jacket will receive an upgrade with the company’s new NanoPro coating, making it 43% more breathable than its predecessors. The Marmot PreCip comes in a ton of different vibrant colors for both men and women to help brighten up even the wettest spring weather.

Adidas Hiking Wandertag Jacket

Finally, the Adidas Outdoor Wandertag Jacket ($99) uses ClimaProof, the company’s own proprietary waterproof breathable technology. Combined with fully sealed seams and a DWR treated face fabric, this hooded rain jacket will keep you warm and dry even in the worst downpour. Similar to the Marmot PreCip, the Adidas Wandertag also comes in a large variety of vibrant colors.

At such an amazing price point for a quality rain jacket, you can afford to buy numerous colors to suit your mood or style next spring.
