America's State Parks First Day Hike

Happy New Year! Why not start your 2012 off right and head out on a hike today? Today is First Day Hikes across America's State Parks. All 50 state park systems have joined together to offer various outdoor recreation programs for you and your family today.

First started over 20 years ago by the Blue Hills Reservation in Massachusetts, state parks across the entire country have now joined the First Day Hikes initiative in order to promote year round healthy lifestyles and outdoor recreation within the state parks. Head on over to the First Day Hikes website and find a local hike or activity at a state park near you, where you can explore the natural and cultural treasures close to your home.

Have an outdoor related New Year's resolution? In honor of the New Year, we are giving away 3 GearCaster t-shirts. Leave a comment below with any resolutions you would like to share for your chance to win a t-shirt. We will announce the winners at the end of next week.

Happy 2012 and a big thanks to all of our readers!

  1. My resolution for the new year is to laugh, hike and fly fish basically in that order. I have 4 kids age range from 7-3 and we have a family goal to spend more time in a tent than a coffee shop in 2012.

  2. My outdoor resolution is to complete a 50k this year. I just started trail running last year and it is beautiful as well as relaxing.
