Do you have a bunch of backpacking trips scheduled or are planning to thru-hike the AT next year and would love to leave the bulky topo maps at home? Hitting the shelves in just a few days, the new special edition Magellan eXplorist handheld GPS gives you unlimited access to National Geographic TOPO! maps for a whole year, enabling you to have the entire American outdoors at your fingertips.
The Magellan eXplorist TOPO! special edition will be offered with both the eXplorist 310 and eXplorist 510 handheld GPS. Both are rugged and waterproof devices with sunlight-readable screens. The eXplorist 310 features a 2.2-inch color screen and 2 GB of storage capacity, while the eXplorist 510 increases the screen size to 3-inches and adds a built-in camera, microphone, and MicroSD slot so you to shoot photos, videos, or add voice annotations to your trip reports.
The special edition package includes unlimited TOPO! content downloads for one year. You even get to keep all the maps you have downloaded after the 12-month subscription time period runs out. The site will let you download up to 1GB per day in 500MB increments.
National Geographic TOPO! maps are full color, high resolution scans of authentic USGS topographic maps, which are enhanced with shaded relief for better detail and image quality, then seamlessly tiled together. Scales include 1:24,000-scale topographic maps for fine detail and 1:100,000-scale topographic maps, ideal for planning and visualizing long trips.
The eXplorist TOPO! will be one in a number of new special edition series from Magellan including Summit Series, ATV and Snowmobile Trailmaps, Fishing Hot Spots, and even turn-by-turn directions in the City Series. The eXplorist 310 TOPO! retails for $199.99 and the eXplorist 510 TOPO! for $299.99. These packages are priced the same as the current standalone products so you are basically saving the $30 National Geographic TOPO! subscription fee for the year.
