At CES this week, Polar announced an addition to their
lineup of wireless heart rate sensors, the Polar H6 Bluetooth Smart. The
smallest profile of the Polar heart rate straps, the H6 is compatible with all the
latest Apple mobile devices.
Polar started the push into Bluetooth Smart technology last
year with the H7 heart rate sensor. The H6 is lighter and slimmer with a more
streamlined design and soft strap that fits like a second skin so you won’t
notice it is there. The slimmer H6 heart rate sensor will provide around 300
hours of wireless connection on one battery and will also help keep the
battery drain low on your phone.
Paired together with your iPhone using Bluetooth Smart
technology, the H6 delivers live heart rate information to whatever fitness app
you choose. Heart rate information can be helpful to adjust your training
intensity as you go or to analyze your performance after a workout.
Polar has created their own free app called Polar Beat. Within the app, you can choose a training target
for the day (e.g., burn calories or beat a certain time) and choose your type of
activity. Polar Beat delivers real-time graphical and voice guidance to keep
you at the right intensity, plus tracks your distance, pace, and route. At the
end of your workout, you can share your results with your friends on Facebook
The Polar H6 Bluetooth Smart heart rate sensor is
available from late January in the U.S. and Europe for $68.96 / €59.90. The H6
is compatible with the iPhone
4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (5th generation), iPad (3rd & 4th generation),
iPad mini, and iPod Nano (7th generation).
