Berghaus VapourLight Hyper Smock
Berghaus VapourLight Hyper Therm

For Spring 2014, the Berghaus VapourLight collection just got Hyper light. The company claims the new VapourLight Hyper Smock is the lightest waterproof jacket in the world, followed by the Hyper Therm, or the lightest synthetic insulation jacket out there.

The Hyper Smock weighs just 110g for a men's large, 30% lighter than anything similar on the market. Fully waterproof yet breathable with taped seams, the smock uses a 7D fabric with a specially formulated waterproof coating. The Hyper Smock features a deep front zip, adjustable hood, and small sleeve pocket, packing down to a mere 12 cm x 8.5 cm (4.7 in x 3.3 in) roll.

Berghaus athlete Philippe Gatta will be wearing the Hyper Smock for his upcoming ultrarun of the Great Himalayan Trail. Philippe will cover 1700km in 40 days, hitting an elevation of 800 meters to 7200 meters along the way.

The Berghaus VapourLight Hyper Smock retails for £120 and will start shipping March 2014.

To match the ultralight nature of the Hyper Smock, Berghaus also created an ultralight midlayer in the Hyper Therm. This reversible jacket uses different face fabrics on either side of the jacket, each with a varying wind resistance rating from 15 CFM (more windproof) to 50 CFM (plus stitched baffles) to give you both warming and cooling options.

With 40 grams of HydroLoft insulation and weighing just 167g, you can wear this jacket one way when active, then turn it the other way round to stay warm when resting or first thing in the morning. Both sides are treated with DWR, so the Hyper Therm is water repellent.

The Berghaus VapourLight Hyper Therm will also retail for £120 and is available March 2014.
