Similar to what Kelty did with the TraiLogic collection, Swedish company Haglöfs put together a base backpacking kit that includes all the basics you need to hit the trail. Designed more for hut-to-hut type hiking adventures (there is no tent-just a sleeping bag), the kit can easily be upgraded to suit a full backpacking trip.
The new Trekking Less Is More (L.I.M) collection from Haglöfs helps you bring only what is absolutely necessary for adventures where every gram or ounce matters. Including a midlayer, hiking pants, shoes, shell, backpack, and sleeping bag, the kit weighs less than 1.5 kg or 3.3 pounds. Add an ultralight tent, Jetboil stove, and a puffy coat, and your base load will still come in around 7 pounds. That’s pretty awesome.
For the Trekking L.I.M collection, Haglöfs gathered its lightest, most packable, and most minimalistic products–products developed for those that want to go at a much lighter and faster pace. These products have only what you need—no more.
The L.I.M WIND PULL, at 65 grams (2.3 ounces), is the lightest, most packable and most minimalistic garment Haglöfs has ever produced. Water resistant and completely windproof, the anorak style jacket is hooded with a thin coating on the inside for increased durability. Packed into its own sleeve when not needed, the jacket can easily be carried in a leg pocket or backpack.
The button fly L.I.M TREK PANT offers UPF 30 sun protection with a leg pocket big enough to hold a map. A basic Power Dry Top serves as your midlayer.
Carry all your gear in the L.I.M LITE 25 that is made from 100D HT Robic polyamide fabric and weighs only 355 grams. Two stretch side pockets hold water bottles or extra gear, while the compression straps can be used to secure an ice axe or trekking poles. The backpack stuffs down into its own lid in order to throw in another bag or backpack.
Introduced last spring, the L.I.M shoes served as the first joint development project between ASICS and Haglöfs. The Low model is the lightest in the collection at 195 grams, with a soft heel counter and thin but strong laces.
Finally, the no zip L.I.M Synthetic sleeping bag features a tight mummy shape and is insulated with bluesign certified QuadFusion that stays warm when wet and offers up a comfort rating of 13°C or 55°F.
I would love to hear from all you ultralighters out there. I think it would be pretty amazing to hit the trail for 3-4 days with a pack weighing less than 20 pounds (throwing in 1 liter of water, filter, 3-4 days of food, and accessories-assuming you could fit it all in a 25L pack).
