Where to Find Great Gear For Free

Yerdle

In case you missed the announcement over Thanksgiving, Patagonia invested in a San Francisco based company called Yerdle. If you are unfamiliar with Yerdle, it is a community based app, where you can earn credits by giving away stuff gathering dust in your closet, and in return, “purchase” other gear with these credits. Basically, it’s a great place to find some awesome gear for free.

When you sign up for the app, Yerdle will give you 250 credits to start. You earn more Yerdle credits by giving away items. These credits act as discounts–credits are applied to the price of every item in the Yerdle store, all the way down to $0. In general, the more you give away on Yerdle, the more you save on the stuff you really want. If you don’t have enough credits for an item, you can buy the extra from Yerdle at a rate of 10 cents per credit.

Unlike eBay or even Craigslist, Yerdle charges no transaction, membership, or commission fees. You keep 100% of the Yerdle credits you earn. Items can either be picked up locally (great for large or heavy items), or shipped for a flat rate price of between $4-$6, with Yerdle supplying the shipping labels.

Yerdle was on hand at select Patagonia stores during Black Friday to give customers credits for turning in used Patagonia gear if they couldn’t find something to swap it out for in the Worn Wear collection. Patagonia will continue to work with Yerdle to find new homes for their used gear. Timbuk2 also works with Yerdle to find a loving owner for your unwanted bags, giving you a discount on a new messenger in exchange.

We recently teamed up with Yerdle to find a new home for all of our previously tested gear. There is only so much gear we can personally use on a day-to-day basis, so instead of the rest collecting dust in our office, we would rather it finds a new, deserving, and loving home–one where the gear is going to be put to good use in the outdooors where it belongs.

So if you haven’t already, be sure to download the Yerdle app today. We just dropped off a car load of gear so get ready for it to appear in the store. Stuff goes fast. Absolutely all of the credits earned from the “sale” of our items, will be donated to charity through the YerdleFund.
