Black Diamond Gym-To-Crag Collection

Camalot Ultralight

For Spring ’16, Black Diamond gets set to launch a whole new assortment of climbing gear–a large swathe of which can just as easily be used in the gym as well as out at your local crag. Featuring everything from new hardware to apparel, the Gym-To-Crag Collection covers you from training to top-out.

Each year, Black Diamond continues to improve upon their Camalot collection. A couple of years ago, the company came out with the tiny X4, then the X4 Offset. This time around, Black Diamond took a look at the tried and true C4 and figured out a way to make it better–meet the Camalot Ultralights. Designed with the same cam angle and range as the C4s, the Black Diamond product team figured out a way to replace the steel cable stem with continuously looped Dyneema.

This patent-pending construction cuts a significant amount of weight (25% less) from each cam while keeping the emphasis on strength and durability. Say you racked up with the entire range of Ultralights, you would be saving 523 grams or just over a pound from weighing down your harness.

Black Diamond Solution Harness

The Solution harness for both men and women will take you seamlessly from the gym to the crag. Called Fusion Comfort Construction, a triple-weave webbing on the inside of the waistbelt and leg loops moves with you and distributes the load, taking pressure off sensitive points of contact such as your hip bones.

Dawn Wall Hoody                Credo Pants

The new Black Diamond apparel collection uses a mixture of natural cotton and synthetic fabrics. One of my favorite pieces is the Dawn Wall Hoody and I have to admit I am a bit jealous of the men’s bright blue, stretch cotton Credo Pants.

Updated packs, headlamps, poles, and lanterns round out the new hardware pieces–expect a full update from Outdoor Retailer next month.
