For Spring ’17 Sea to Summit enters the hammock category with three new pieces and a variety of accessories. Using minimalist buckles and high-strength, low density fabrics, the hammocks are small, light, and easy to set-up.
Ultralighters will be super keen on the Ultralight Hammock — the world’s lightest hammock at 4.9 ounces. It’s made from a specially designed Nylon 66 monofilament fabric that is ultralight in weight but strong enough to hold up to 300 pounds. The fabric is highly-breathable and wicks away moisture.
Monofilament is also highly compressible, meaning the 8.5′ x 4′ hammock packs dow to roughly the size of a soda can. The Quick Connect Buckles are made from a lightweight aluminum and the webbing loops are triple bar-tacked for long-term durability.
Accessories include suspension straps that attach directly to the Quick Connect Buckles and add 6 ounces to your setup. Almost 10 feet long and made of 15mm non-stretch webbing, the straps can wrap around large trees and quick to adjust to the preferred 30-degree hang. To ensure you don’t harm the trees you hang your hammock from, 1.5-inch wide Tree Protectors attach to the suspension straps.
For bug protection, the 13.4-ounce Hammock Bug Net is made from soft polyester mesh and features a unique spreader pole that gets rid of the ridgeline for a more spacious feeling and unhindered view of the stars above. The spreader pole design also keeps bugs from biting you through the mesh.
The Hammock Tarp is made from a Ultra-Sil Nano 15D fabric, measures 11’10” x 9’2″, and weighs 11.6 ounces. The tarp uses a 5-point design with one guyout point on one side for ventilation and cooking and two guyout points on the opposite to stake close to the ground for prevailing wind and rain protection.
Finally, a simple Gear Sling (5.8 ounces) sits under your hammock to keep your backpack off the ground. All the Sea to Summit hammocks and accessories, including the Single and Double Pro Hammocks, will start shipping early next spring.
