Trail running- a great way to quickly get into shape but it can also be hard on your body. Over the past few months, I set out on a pain-free trail running quest and found some gear to help guide the way. Hopefully this list helps any of you suffering the same ailments and I would love to hear what works to keep you pain-free as well.

Two footwear camps appear to be forming around trail running: those for the minimalist, barefoot style and those for the more super cushioned approach originally taken by Hoka Shoes. Debuting next Spring, Montrail and Tecnica are introducing a new line of trail running shoes with extra cushioning.
Despite all of the buzz surrounding barefoot running at the moment, French footwear company HOKA has decided to go in the opposite direction. Called Hubbles, HOKA's new line of super cushioned trail shoes will debut in May 2010, with the Mafate edition the first to be released.
