Recon Jet Smart Glasses Start Shipping

Recon Jet

Years in the making, the Recon Jet heads up display is finally shipping. Built for running, cycling, or other high intensity sports, these smart glasses deliver activity specific information instantly, just below your eye.

Backed by a smartphone-class processor, Recon Jet features a built-in GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, altimeter, barometer, and magnetometer. Using ANT+, Bluetooth Smart (Bluetooth 4.0), and Wi-Fi connectivity, the smart glasses connect with all your external activity sensors and pairs with your phone to get caller ID, SMS notifications, and access to social media.

Jet’s display is equivalent to a 30” screen viewed from 7 feet (2 m) away.  The display wakes up instantly when you glance down, then turns off again when you look away, minimizing distractions and maximizing power efficiency. Sitting just below your right eye, the display gives you instant access to all your activity data including pace, distance, duration, HR, GPS maps, etc.

A built-in camera captures photos and video instantly, where Jet’s display doubles as a viewfinder to get the perfect shot. An optical touchpad and two-button rocker act as your interface with the Jet system.

The Jet battery snaps on the opposite side of the heads up display for optimal weight balance–It’s also swappable, so you don’t have to worry about losing power on that long ride.

The ReconOS is Android-based, meaning it offers an open SDK against which anyone can write apps. Additional apps include things such as friend finder and being alerted about an upcoming Strava segment.

The Recon Jet smart glasses retail for $699 and are available now.
