Next Spring, JanSport plans to fill a gap in the market with a new affordable line of women's specific outdoor backpacks. Taking into account actual female sizes and shapes during the design process, JanSport will start with two packs, the Cienega and Traverse.
The Traverse is a 20 L day pack for use on those done in a day adventures. Shaped to not hit your more sensitive bony areas, the slim shoulder straps, hip belt, and back panel are padded with a perforated EVA foam to add breathability.
The women's day pack features a quick access hydration sleeve, dual loops for stowing your trekking poles, an a secure zippered front pocket. Two side compression straps help hold down your poles or any extra gear, while roomy stretch mesh pockets on the side of the day pack can hold two full size water bottles.
The 32 L Cienega pack offers more room for stowing your sleeping bag and tent for those short weekend or overnight trips. For added comfort when carrying loads, the slim women's specific shoulder straps are fully padded with perforated EVA foam, as are the back panel and hip belt.
You can quickly gain access to your hydration bladder for water refill, while dual gear loops enable you to easily stash your trekking poles or ice axe. Mesh pockets on each side of the hip belt are perfect for storing your camera, snacks, or lip balm for the trail. Dual stretch mesh side pockets can hold your water bottles or wet gear.
Adding style to function, both JanSport women's outdoor backpacks are available in blue and purple color combinations. The Traverse retails for $85, the Cienega for $125, and both will start shipping March 2012.
