New Hammock and Ultralight Tents from NEMO

NEMO Cloudview

During my trip to NEMO headquarters and our subsequent hike up Mount Washington in May, I got to play with the new Spring ’17 gear — there are a few pieces I am super excited about. NEMO makes a foray into camp furniture with the Cloudview Hammock and all you ultralighters or bikepackers out there will be psyched on a couple of the new tents. As per usual, it’s all the little design details that makes NEMO gear extra special.

NEMO Cloudview

While hammocks are awesome for sleeping, they aren’t exactly sociable as you get sucked down into a little cocoon. With the Cloudview Hammock ($170), NEMO added a pair of spreader bars that hold the head and foot open, with a cool Layflat pattern that raises your head while keeping your back and legs level. It’s super comfortable for sleeping (even for side sleepers!) and great for hanging out in like a porch swing. The hammock fabric is similar to mesh furniture fabric, so has more structure and density to it. With an integrated no-spill cup holder and a pocket for your phone or iPad, you will never want to leave.

NEMO Spike 2P

Bikepackers and thru-hikers will love the new Spike 1P ($230) and Spike 2P ($300). Though designed with backcountry hunters and anglers in mind, this less than 1 pound (for the 1P) floorless waterproof shelter uses two trekking poles for setup with a front vestibule that doubles as an awning on clear nights. A detachable cord across the base of the front door enables to you to pitch the tarp tent perfectly every time. The 1P gives you 25-square-feet of floor space with a 5-square-foot vestibule and the 2P give you 41-square-feet of floor space with a 10-square-foot vestibule. The integrated Foot Trap at the foot-end and the side Splash Skirt offer added protection on those foul weather days.

NEMO Hornet Elite

For ultralighters who want the full tent experience, the new Hornet Elite keeps the same design, footprint, and 2 doors/vestibules (in the 2P) as the popular Hornet, but incorporates lighter 7-denier and 10-denier Sil/PU Nylon ripstop fabric. This brings the Hornet Elite 2P ($500) under 2 lbs. to 1 lb., 12, oz. and the Hornet Elite 1P ($450) down to 1 lb., 7 oz.

These are just some of the highlights of the NEMO Spring ’17 collection. I will have a review up soon on the new Puffin Luxury Blanket.
