For the Trail Base Water Filter Kit, MSR combine the TrailShot water filter with two Dromedary Bags and created a flexible system that mimics the Platypus GravityWorks Filer. As a classic gravity filter at basecamp, the kit filters up to 2 liters at a time — either for immediate use or to be stored in the ultralight reservoir marked ‘Clean.’
When you are on the go, you can remove the Trail Shot filter to drink and filter water throughout the day instead of having to stop and filter through the full gravity system.
If you recall, the 5.2-ounce TrailShot requires no setup and takes just a simple squeeze to fill a 1-liter bottle in around a minute. You can drink straight from the filter as well, with no need to lie on the ground as the long intake hose enables you to stay upright.
