New company Eukarya is out to create more eco-friendly outdoor products by minimizing the use of petroleum-based plastics, single use batteries, and harsh chemicals, while incorporating natural materials such as wood and bamboo. Their first product is a headlamp which reminds me of the Beta headlamp that UCO introduced a couple of years ago.
Eukarya’s new Origin headlamp is designed with a milled aluminum frame, cherry or zebra wood body, and black anodized aluminum inlay. It includes a USB rechargeable internal battery to minimize the environmental impact of battery disposal.
The headlamp emits up to 300 lumens of light in a warm color temperature and comes with two brightness mode plus a strobe mode. The battery should last for up to 5 hours on high and 15 hours on low. It takes around two hours to fully recharge the battery.
One of the cool things about the company is that for every product sold, Eukarya will plant one tree in an area devastated by wildfires or overdevelopment. And the team will personally volunteer to do the planting, partnering with One Tree Planted and a few other organizations to join their volunteer seedling planting events.
The company is currently taking pre-orders for the Original headlamp over on Kickstarter. Prices start at $118 with expected delivery in March.
