The OutDoor Show in Germany last month was awash with innovative new climbing protection. In addition to the Magnetron Carabiners from Black Diamond and lighter climbing hardware from Petzl, new gear was on display from Italy's Kong and Climbing Technology, as well as California's Mad Rock.
Following up the GriGri 2, Petzl continues the trend of dropping weight on their climbing hardware. The new Reverso 4 and the Micro Traxion may not make you as fast as Ueli Steck, but will shave quite a few precious grams off your climbing load.
Italian company Climbing Technology has developed a new belay device called the Click Up. Lightweight and simple to use, the auto-locking belay device employs an HMS carabiner to do the hard work. Very little effort is required to give or take in slack and lock off if your climber should fall.
