My friend Betsy Curtin of Plum Jobs first introduced me to Haiku Bags and designer Sharon Eisenhauer at the last Outdoor Retailer. I immediately fell in love with these sporty, yet feminine bags. Like the poems,
are the perfect union of style and substance.
Haiku has recently unveiled their new eco-friendly line for Fall 2010 called Rumi. Rumi comes from the 13th century Sufi poet who taught love and acceptance (Haiku is based in Berkeley). Sharon's hand embroidered, nature inspired designs, perfectly compliment these environmentally conscious bags for women.
The Haiku Rumi bags are made with cyclePET, which is a fabric created from 100% post consumer recycled beverage bottles. Haiku aims to be socially responsible in all practices and to make all choices consciously and with integrity.
The Rumi collection comprises three styles, each offered in Cocoa or Ink colors. The Rumi Tribute is a shoulder bag featuring two outer pockets, one Velcro pocket and one zip pocket for valuables. The Tribute will retail for $69.
The Rumi Messenger is a multifunctional everything bag. Yoga mat straps make it perfect for carrying to the gym and the laptop and roller bag sleeves mean you can take it as a carry-on for your next trip. The Messenger features six pockets, including a water bottle pocket and a spring clip for keys. The Rumi Messenger will retail for $109.
Finally, the Rumi Cosmetic is a great bag for stashing all your makeup, computer and phone chargers or even to use for a night out on the town. A detachable wrist strap lets you carry the bag on its own. The Cosmetic will retail for $23.
All of the Haiku Rumi bags will be available starting Aug 1st and can be ordered from the Haiku website or bought at select retailers such as
