A new addition to CamelBak's Multi-Sport collection for 2011 is the Octane LR, featuring the lumbar version of the new Antidote hydration reservoir. The Octane LR is designed to not only offer you stabilized hydration but to carry any extra gear you might need such as layers, energy bars, head lamp, maps or a compass.
The Antidote Lumbar Reservoir is housed at the base of the Octane LR pack and is externally accessible for fast refilling. By settling the reservoir lower on your back, the water weight is stabilized on your hips. I tried a pack on at Outdoor Retailer and you can barely tell that you are carrying over 5 lbs of water.
The lumbar reservoir leaves the rest of the pack available to hold your other gear and creates maximum stability for trail running, adventure racing and cycling. The Octane LR pack features under-arm tube routing, giving you the option to have the tube come either under your arm or over your shoulder.
The Octane LR pack itself is made from an extremely lightweight 70D mini ripstop fabric with air channel and is reinforced with panels of 420D nylon. The Octane LR accommodates a 70 oz. (2 L) Antidote Lumbar Reservoir with an additional 25 L of gear capacity. The pack itself weighs 360 grams with no reservoir.
The Octane LR lumbar hydration pack will retail for $89 and be available starting October 15th.
